What types of crafts are your favorite?

I started as a card maker and a scrapbooker and I’ve been passionate about sewing for four years now.  I work mostly with linen and scraps from my favorite fabrics. One thing about using such tiny pieces of fabric in my designs is that no piece of fabric is too small to save.

What colors can you not get enough of right now?

Definitely yellow! And pink…and blue.  It’s so hard to choose only one color because they always harmonize so perfectly together.

What made/makes you so passionate about crafting?

I sew because I love it. Years ago, I was hand embroidering my own and my children’s drawings. After my husband brought me a sewing machine, I was curious whether I could do the same sort of ‘drawing with thread’ with the sewing machine. It turned out I could, and what was even better was that I could do it so much faster. I began to create projects that I could embellish with my sewing illustrations, and I discovered a new passion along the way.

If you could craft with any person in the world, living or dead, who would it be and why?

I would say my little 6-year-old girl, Claire. Because I wrote a craft book in Korean using her drawings and even for my second book, Sew Illustrated (co-authored with Kristin Esser) she inspired me in so many ways. I think it’s because I am a mama and can’t live without my kids.

In one word, how would you describe your crafting style?

My husband says my works are warm. I like that. I want my projects to be something anybody can smile at and love to recall.

Where do you get creative inspiration from?

I get my inspiration from everyday life. I think it’s human nature to want to draw the world — faraway places that are so beautiful and grand. But, in reality, I find what I really draw is my everyday life: my humble kitchen, my messy sewing room, the piles of shoes by the door; and my sweet girls. This is my real life, and I find that it’s actually quite beautiful.

You’re stranded on a desert island. What three craft supplies couldn’t you live without?

Sewing machine, a pair of scissors, and a glue stick!  When we go camping I bring school scissors and some glue for my kids, and we make fun things using the supply from the nature.

What “trendy” supply or craft are you loving right now?

Linen and linen-like fabric. Because they are my canvas of Sewing illustration.

Where do you buy your supplies?

I visit my local craft store JoAnn and Michaels for  the inspirations and to read the trend.
